
BILASPUR, APRIL 26: President of Himachal Pradesh Non-gazetted Employees8217; Federation, Gopal Dass Verma, who ruled the roost during the Virbhadra regime may be in for trouble as various employees8217; organisations have started regrouping themselves against his leadership.
The open proximity of Verma to former chief minister Virbhadra Singh, has allegedly led to 8220;politicisation8221; of the federation, as Verma has been on an offensive against political leaders like Shanta Kumar of the BJP and Himachal Vikas Congress supremo Sukh Ram.
Verma has even been urging people to support the Congress in Vidhan Sabha and Lok Sabha polls. This stance of Verma might have paid him dividends, but at the same time, enveloped him in controversies.His alleged 8220;harassment,8221; 8220;repression8221; and 8220;vicitmisation8221; of the employees also earned him quite a big number of enemies within the employee groups.
The newly-formed Himachal Pradesh Employees8217; Confederation has broken away quite a few influential leaders, including K S Dhiman, once the state vice -president of the federation, Subhash Sharma, once the secretary general of the federation and Subhash Puri, president of the HP University Employees Union, among others from the parent body.
Dozens of employees8217; leaders who were dismissed or terminated allegedly at the behest of Verma, have been reinstated by the Dhumal government, as the first 8220;goodwill8221; gesture towards the employees to create 8220;cordial relations8221; with them. The confederation has already gone on record demanding a 8220;white paper8221; on working of the federation headed by Gopal Das Verma.
