2,500 attend regional meet on creativity
Over 2,500 teenagers belonging to various religious and social organisation of Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Chandigarh presented songs, speeches and drama on "Human Integration through spiritual enlightenment" at a two-day regional workshop on Creativity and Humanity, which concluded here today. The workshop was organised by local branch of Sant Nirankari Mandal in its Bhawan at Sector 30.
Phari market stir enters 14th day
The chain hunger strike launched by Sonia Gandhi Phari Market Association in front of the Municipal Corporation office entered its 14th day today. It was resolved that the agitation would continue till the demands of phari owners are not met.
Two yoga camps from June 16
The city unit of the Divine Life Society is organising two yoga, meditation and pranayam camps from June 16. Each camp with 7-day duration, to be conducted by Yogrishi Swami Ananda from Rishikesh, will be held at Baba Balak Nath Mandir, Sector 29.
85 examined at BP check-up camp
A total of 85 patients were examined at a free blood pressure check-up camp held at Amrit Heart Centre, Sector 20-C, here today. The camp was inaugurated by Surjit Singh, Principal Secretary, General Administration and Vigilance, Punjab. A team of doctors lead by Dr Jasmer Singh examined the patients. Free medicines were distributed to the patients during the camp. To educate the patients, various measures were explained by the doctors to prevent and control blood pressure.
Fresh MC taxes discussed
The local unit of the Samajwadi Party at its meeting today discussed the imposition of new taxes by the Akali-BJP combine of Municipal Corporation vis-a-vis parking fee and malba fee. At the meeting, the interference of the ruling partner in posting and transferring officials on its own was also strongly condemned.
Lecture on trends in public admn
A lecture on "Emerging trends in Public Administration" is being organised by the regional branch of Indian Institute of Public Administration (IIPA) along with the Department of Public Administration, Panjab University. According to a press statement issued by D.V. Bhatia, honorary secretary of IIPA, Prof S.R. Maheshwari, formerly of IIPA, will deliver the lecture on June 10.
