The People’s Democratic Front, the new outfit of Muslim leaders in Uttar Pradesh, launched its election campaign today by attacking both Mulayam Singh Yadav and Mayawati. The party announced that it would contest 147 seats and support its ‘‘allies’’ in the rest.
The party kicked off its campaign from Kaesarganj constituency in Bahraich district and called upon the voters to ban these leaders from entering the area.
‘‘Now there are only two political options in the state— one belongs to the Shaitan which includes the SP and BSP while the other belongs to Allah. Now, turn down any benefit from the present government of Shaitan and vote for the rule of Allah,’’ the PDF leaders said.
‘‘Since Allah never talked about Muslims specifically as all his preachings are for the entire humanity, all Muslims should take oath today that each one of them will make one Hindu friend and become 60 per cent in UP from their present population of 30 per cent,’’ said Arshad Khan, general secretary of the PDF.
‘‘When we were illiterate, the political parties had sympathy for us and used to accommodate us. But now when 90 per cent of us are literate, they dub us as ISI agents and put us behind the bars. This is happening in Mulayam Singh’s time. Mayawati, on the other hand, campaigns for Narendra Modi, a fundamentalist and killer,’’ he said.
While announcing the name of Salauddin Khan, an advocate, as its first candidate from the constituency, PDF chairman Maulana Kalbe Jawad alerted the voters that rival political parties will try to spread the rumour that the candidate of the front will ultimately help the BJP to win the election and a massacre of Muslims would become inevitable.
‘‘The SP and the BSP will terrorise you by telling that the RSS-BJP may come to power due to us and then the RSS will come and try to spread the rumour that we will convert India into Pakistan. They have been doing the same for the last more than five decades,’’ he told a moderate crowd.
‘‘We are not here to pose any threat to good people. It is our responsibility to ensure that even a poor Brahmin gets better treatment. But we are certainly a threat for the mafias and looters, and for those who have been treating the Muslims as beggars,’’ he said.
PDF convenor Nehaluddin said: ‘‘When Mau or Aligarh was burning, Mulayam was sleeping. No Muslim leader spoke against the killings and misrule. The BSP’s Muslim leader Nasimuddin cannot even go to riot-hit areas without Mayawati’s permission.’’ NCP leader Ramesh Dixit, CPI-ML’s Akhiledra Pratap Singh and Ambedkar Samaj Party’s Tej Singh were also present.
