New owner for top cricket website

In the fast world of mergers and acquisitions, yet another popular site goes. Cricinfo, an arm of the venerable Wisden group and one of cricket8217;s most followed websites, has been bought by Walt Disney Co8217;s ESPN. The site today quoted Russell Wolff, Managing director of ESPN International as saying: 8220;Cricinfo is a tremendous property with a great fan base and it will be a strong addition to ESPN.8221;

Cricinfo may be leaving cricket8217;s traditional information and media home Wisden, but it will be joining a stable of top-drawer sports sites, including ESPN.com, the US8217; premier online sports destination, and ESPNsoccernet.com, a football website. Wolff also said: 8220;Growing our business in the online world is vital for us to serve sports fans.8221;

According to Mark Getty, director of the Wisden group, 8220;ESPN8230; will provide the perfect environment for Cricinfo to further realise its enormous potential.8221;
