Need for sex education stressed

With such findings and emphasis on the need for sex education, the problems of adolescents were discussed during the North Zone Obstetrics and Gynaecological Conference held in Government Medical College Hospital, yesterday.

During the conference, Prof Tara Gupta of I.G. Medical College, Shimla talked about instances of pregnancy in young girls and their problems. Prof Bhushan Kumar of PGI talked of sexually transmitted diseases and the adolescents8217;vulnerability.Delegates and teachers from schools and colleges also expressed themselves on the subject.

While some believed that too much information about sex might have undesirable results. others felt that to a certain limit, sex education was imperative for children.
