MUMBAI, Sept 9: Syed Mohammed Masood, the NCP-RPI-SP-JD front candidate from Mumbadevi Assembly constituency, has said the Rent Control Act will be amended in favour of tenants if the front was voted to power.

We will amend certain provisions of the Rent Control Act so that all leased properties in the city could be converted as equatable mortgages. This will help the tenants to own the house/premises. The amendment will also provide fair compensation to landlords and property owners, so that they also do not lose,8217; said Masood.

In a press release issued here today, Masood said Minister of State for Housing and BJP candidate, Raj Purohit, has failed to safeguard the interests of the tenants in Mumbai. He alleged that Purohit8217;s campaign saying he protected the tenants was an eyewash as it was during the minister8217;s tenure that several tenants faced a threat of being thrown out on the roads. He said the case between the tenants and landlords might go on for years, in which case, only the NCP-led government could protect the tenants.
