Hyderabad, Aug 31: Studying the shifting wind conditions quite admirably on a gloomy day, Naval Sailing Club won the inaugural laser team championship defeating EME Sailing Association A in the final race trial of the BPL-sponsored National regatta championships at Hussain Sagar on Tuesday.
The National Laser Association of India which met here today decided to bid for the 2003 OK Dinghy World championships.
However, it was made clear that Asia-Pacific meet scheduled to be held in April in 2001 will not be held in Hyderabad as the winds during that time of the year will not be ideal for conducting the championships. Goa, Pondicherry or Vizag are the other likely venues for the meet.
Later, in the evening, the BPL-National regatta championship was formally inaugurated by Anand Rau, chief secretary, AP, while Maj Gen Mohan Das, chairman of the organising committee, presided. The proper action begins tomorrow.
