Lifer for killing twin brother

NASHIK: Eknath Motiram Bhoye 40 of Karambhel village, Kalwan taluka, was sentenced to life imprisonment by a sessions court on Tuesday for killing his twin brother, Kashinath.

Eknath used to take Kashinath8217;s goats for grazing and was promised Rs 50 for the job. On January 25, 1998, with the debt still unsettled, an incensed Eknath confronted Kashinath. The quarrel ended with Eknath axing his brother to death.

Two brothers killed

NASHIK: Two men were strangled to death by their sister8217;s suitor after they got her engaged to someone else last week.

According to police, Chandrashekhar Vinayak Ghogare of Loni Khurd village in Shrirampur, Ahmednagar, was in love with a girl living in the same village. The girl8217;s brothers however disapproved of the relationship and got her engaged to another man.

An irate Ghogare, along with four of his accomplices, killed both the brothers, Dattatraya and Navnath Tavre, by strangulating them and dumped theirbodies in two different wells. Ghogare knew both the brothers and had even had a few drinks with one of them before carrying out the murders.

The bodies were recovered in early hours of Monday. The police have registered offences under section 302 of the Indian Penal Code and are looking out for the killers, who have absconded.

Onion prices remain high

NASHIK: Onion prices in the district8217;s wholesale markets continued to hover at peak levels on Tuesday with the highest price ever of Rs 3,600 per quintal being quoted at the Deola market in Kalwan taluka.

About 1,200 quintals of the old Rabi stocks harvested five months ago were sold in Deola at rates ranging from Rs 3,000 to Rs 3,600 per quintal. The newly arrived kharif crop 8212; about 200 quintals 8212; was being sold for at Rs 800-Rs 2,200 per quintal.

At the Lasalgaon marketyard, prices fetched by the old rabi onions were in the range of Rs 702 to Rs 3,349 per quintal. Some 90 tractor trailorloads each carrying 30 quintals arrived at themarket of which two tractors brought in new kharif onions. The average price of the new crop was Rs 1,5000 per quintal.

The arrival of the fresh crop is likely to bring down prices in the next fortnight.
