Chairman and managing director of the National Aluminium Company, C. Venkataramana said on Wednesday that the allegations of misconduct made against him by a woman colleague are absolutely false and baseless.

It was unfortunate that police took cognisance of such a 8216;8216;frivolous allegation8217;8217;, Venkataramana said in a statement from Mumbai, which was released here. 8216;8216;The colleague should dispel the misunderstanding by withdrawing the charges, or the outcome of the court proceedings should be awaited,8217;8217; he said.

Venkataramana said he learned about the allegation from a newspaper report on February 13 and immediately contacted his lawyer, as there was an apprehension of arrest. The next two days were holidays, and the lawyer filed a petition for anticipatory bail in Delhi High Court on February 16. The High Court directed Sahar Police station in Mumbai to file the status of the case on February 25. The police informed the court that the NALCO CMD was required only under bailable offences.

Venkataramana said that Delhi High Court directed him to appear before the police. 8216;8216;Today I have presented myself to the concerned police in order to join the investigation,8217;8217; he said. He was released on a personal bond.
