
LUCKNOW, AUGUST 2: Asia’s largest celestial telescope is being set up at Deosthal in Nainital with the cooperation of Tata Institute for Fundamental Research (TIFR), Mumbai.
The total project will cost about Rs 1434.80 crore, 50 per cent of which will be borne by TIFR, an official release said here on Wednesday.
An memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between the TIFR and the Uttar Pradesh government for this purpose on May 8. The project also envisages setting up of a solar telescope with a diameter of 60 cms.
So far the Government has released a sum of Rs 3.66 crore for this project. A provision of Rs 5 crore has been made for this purpose in the current financial year.
