HIV positive patient escapes from JJ Hospital

An eight-month pregnant HIV infected undertrial hoodwinked a woman constable before escaping from the prisoner ward of J J Hospital early Friday morning. Police said Shalini Sharma 25 was admitted to the Septic Room in Ward 29 last Saturday and detected to be HIV positive. She was arrested on August 17, 1999 along with her associates on charges of indulging in a prostitution racket. Shalini was remanded to custody at the Arthur Road jail a fortnight ago and was brought for treatment to J J Hospital. Two women police constables, Sunita Raut and Sarita Chaugre were posted to guard her. However around 4:30 am on Friday she managed to escape. Police say she slipped out on the pretext of going to the toilet. A complaint was registered at the J J Marg police station.

Only unleaded petrol sold in city

All petrol pumps in the city began selling only unleaded petrol ULP from Saturday, following a Union Government decision to phase out leaded petrolin the country within the next six months.

The environment-friendly ULP costs the same as leaded petrol and can be safely mixed in fuel tanks which already have leaded petrol in them. Cars with catalytic convertors are environment-friendly and produce the best results of ULP. But vehicles without the convertors can also use ULP without damaging their engines.

Chhota Rajan aide nabbed

In a major breakthrough, a member of the Chhota Rajan gang was arrested by officers and staff attached to Unit 10 of the Crime Branch on Friday.

According to Assistant Police Inspector Raju Pillai, information was received on Wednesday that Kanaiya Sukhdev Gaud 39 was to visit Borivli to meet a person. A trap was laid by Pillai, PSI Vilas Gangawane, Allad Gaikwad and others and Gaud was nabbed.

According to Gangawane, Gaud had last year provided information to key Rajan member D K Rao regarding the whereabouts of bomb blasts accused Mohammed Ehthesham. Gaud is also wanted by the police in a rape case atKashimira.

Waitress commits suicide

A beer bar waitress committed suicide at her residence at Dongri on Saturday. Rehana Begum Moiuddin 24 a waitress with Hotel Green Park, Tardeo had returned to her residence at Omkar Niwas, Umerkhadi on Friday night after work.

After chatting with her brother they went to sleep. On Saturday morning Rehana8217;s brother found his sister hanging from the ceiling fan with her dupatta around her neck. The cause of the suicide is yet to be ascertained. The Dongri police were waiting for Rehana8217;s parents to arrive from Bangalore. Further investigations are on.
