
Boeing8217;s 550 th jetliner
MUMBAI: The Boeing Company has delivered its 550th jetliner for the year 1998. The company will deliver 620 airplanes in the year 1999, a news release of the Boeing Commercial Airplane Group claims. The Commercial Airplanes president Alan Mulally said the targets could be met by the company, as around 13 per cent of the staff worked in the 1997 holidays. In 1998, around 5 per cent staff worked overtime, he added.
Dilip Kumar undergoes surgery
Thespian Dilip Kumar underwent a bypass surgery yesterday at Lilavati Hospital in which six blocked arteries were treated successfully. He had earlier been admitted to Jaslok Hospital with complaints of chest pain and uneasiness, and an angiography had shown the arteries blocks. He was then shifted to Lilavati Hospital and the surgery was performed. His condition is reported to be stable.

Award for Shahnaz Husain
Beautician Shahnaz Husain has received the prestigious Great Daughter of the Soil8217; award at the All India Conference of Intellectuals, New Delhi. Election Commissioner G V G Krishnamurty presented the award to Husain for her contribution in promoting India8217;s 5,000-year old Ayurvedic heritage in the world. Subramaniam Swamy to visit Mumbai
Dr Subramaniam Swamy, President of the Janata Party and Parliamentarian, will pay a two-day visit to Mumbai on Jan 4 and 5. He will first take part ina Roza-Iftar party and then participate in a discussion of the Committee on subordinate legislation of the Lok Sabha, which is visiting Mumbai.
Justice Tipnis sworn-in as Lokayukta
Justice V P Tipnis was sworn in as the Lokayukta of the State by the Governor of Maharashtra P C Alexander, at a function in Raj Bhavan on Friday. Chief Minister Manohar Joshi and Deputy Chief Minister Gopinath Munde were present on the occasion.
