
Income tax raids on firms net Rs 2.39 cr
Searches on two separate firms by the investigation wing of the Income-Tax Department yielded a disclosure of Rs 2.39 crore on Friday. IT teams raided two units of a company manufacturing telecom accessories in Mumbai and Goa. The information with the department that the company was showing more production in Goa to avail of benefits in that state was confirmed during the raid. IT officials, while refusing to confirm the name of the company, confirmed that the disclosure made so far was of Rs 1.11 crore.
Factory labourers food poisoned
Thirteen labourers took ill due to foodpoisoning at a chemical godown at Bhandup on Friday. Around 1.30 pm on Friday after the labourers of Mathuradas and Narayandas and Sons loaded the bags containing P-Nitroaniline Rexis Salt 2-6-Dichloro chemical in a cargo container and sat for lunch then they began feeling giddy and unwell. Some of them even began vomiting incessantly. Eight of them were admitted in the Mulund General Hospital while five of them were admitted in the Dr Badwaik8217;s Nursing Home. All of them are reported to be out of danger. Goregaon hotel cashier killedA hotel cashier was killed and a waiter was injured when two other employees assaulted them with sharp weapons. Around 3.15 am on Saturday, Hanif and Mukhtar, both of whom work as waiters in Hotel Rumania located at New Link Road at Goregaon, attacked cashier P Abdul and another waiter Babu with knife and chopper. While Abdul died on the spot, Babu survived after he was rushed to the Cooper Hospital at Andheri. The Goregaon police have registered a case of murder and are makingefforts to trace the killers.
Three held for assault on scribe
Three persons have been arrested in connection with the assault on a scribe here on Friday night, police said today. The scribe Mubarak Yakub Shaikh of the Mahanagar, a Hindi eveninger, was beaten up by four anti-social elements who barged into his residence at Byculla in south central Mumbai around 2300 hours.
