Workers giving final touches to a tableau depicting Sant Dnyaneshwar at Bandra reclamation ground on Wednesday. Tableaux from all parts of the state are expected to participate in the Maharashtra Day celebration.

MUMBAI, April 30: Brigadier Harish Israni has taken over as the new Deputy Director General, NCC, Maharashtra. No stranger to NCC, Brigadier Israni, is an alumni of National Defence Academy, Khadakvasla and Indian Military Academy,Dehra Dun. He had commanded two NCC groups and had been involved in active counter-insurgency operations in South Assam, Manipur and Tripura coming to Mumbai on his post.

Doctorate

Anil Govind Phale, assistant editor of the Aurangabad edition of Saamna has been awarded a doctorate in journalism by the Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University in Aurangabad. The topic of his research was problems related to human resource development in language newspapers.

Eye camp

A two-day free eye camp jointly organised by Mahavir medical research Centre, Khar and Rotary Club of Bombay sea-coast will be held on May 1 and 2. the camp which includes distribution of free medicines, spectacles and free operations will be held at the Mahavir Medical Research Centre. Amendment

The Bombay Booksellers & Publishers associations have urged the government to drop an amendment,introduced on January 9 1997, in the Reserve Bank of India Act 1934. The amendment will only bring business activity in the country to a grinding halt, the association claimed.
