
Anna Hazare gets award
MUMBAI, April 27: The international relief and development organisation, Cooperative for American Remittances to Europe Inc CARE has awarded its International Humanitarian Award for 1998 to social activist Anna Hazare. Said a press release, Hazare got the award for his 8220;steadfast belief in, commitment to and activism for self-sustained village development.8221; Former recipients of the award include the Self Employed Women8217;s Association8217;s Ila Bhatt, Ireland president Mary Robinson, Grameen Bank founder Mohammed Yunus and Guatemalan activist Rosalina Tuyuc.
Workshop on gender issues n A one-day workshop on social and gender issues has been organised by Akshara, a women8217;s resource centre, on April 30 between 10 am and 5 pm for college students. The workshop will focus on man-woman relationships, career planning and stress and conflict resolution. The registration fee is Rs 10, with lunch. Kala Niketan awards
The Maharashtra Kala Niketan will present its annual awards to eminent personalities at Rang Sharda auditorium on Wednesday. Dilip Kumar, Sunil Dutt, N P Chopra, Mahesh Bhatt, Dev Anand, Amrish Puri, Ashok Kumar, Naushad, Laxmikant, Pyarelal, Naseeruddin Shah, Usha Kiron, Asha Bhosale and Shabana Azmi will be awarded the Maharashtra Ratna for cinema, Ajit Wadekar for sports, Sudhir Mandke for medicine and Hari Vishnu Pophale and R K Saraf for industry.
