
Report cruelty to snakes
People for Animals PFA, has organised an anti-cruelty drive against the treatment of snakes on the occasion of Nagpanchmi today, when snakes are venerated by devotees by feeding milk. Snakes just do not drink milk, and the liquid blocks their air-passage, informed a press release. Under the Wildlife Protection Act 1972, Section 9, 39, 49 keeping or breeding of snakes is prohibited and it is a cognizable offence. Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1960, Section 21 prohibits exhibition of protected animals and violation of the Act is again a cognizable offence. Persons in possession of a snake as well as the person feeding it PCA ACT 1960 are liable to be prosecuted. Story contest for teachers
A story competition for teachers has been organised by the EducationalTechnological Cell at Worli and the Akashwani Centre. Stories based on values for standards I to VII are being invited. A selection committee will select 10 stories, whose writers will be awarded a cash prize and a certificate. Prize-winning stories will be read out on the Akashwani.
Primary and secondary school teachers can participate in the competition. If more than one story is being sent, each story should be sent separately. Stories should not exceed 100 words or 4-5 foolscap pages. The story should be accompanied by a recognition letter from the school as well as the school8217;s address and the teacher8217;s residence address and phone number. The story has to be handwritten. Entries should be sent by September 30 to the Deputy Director, Education Technological Cell, Social Education Temple, Adarsh Nagar, Worli, Mumbai-400025; phone no: 4300569.
