
CM buys Jai Jawan lottery
Chief Minister Narayan Rane and fomer finance Minister Madhukar Shivankar today purchased tickets of the Jai Jawan special draw, a lottery series to be drawn on August 15. Ten lakh tickets of this special lottery to aid the Kargil war martyrs have been printed and Rs 1 crore from the sale of this lottery will be forwarded to them, said lottery seller Suresh Bhagat.
Safety Council announces awards
The National Safety Council8217;s highest award the Sarvashreshtha Suraksha Puraskar8217; has been won by Sudarshan Chemicals, Mahad. Four awards in the category of Shreshtha Suraksha Puraskar have been won by NTPC at Dari, Mitsu Industries at Vapi, Lupin Laboratories at Manideep and Indian Oil Corporation at Guwahati.
Over 150 organisations contested for the 16 awards decided by an eight-member committee under the chairmanship of Chandrakant Garware.
WIAA flays toll collection
The Western India Automobile Association WIAA has criticised the state government8217;spolicy of collecting toll from motorists for using the flyovers.
Said WIAA president Nitin Dossa, 8220;What was conveniently forgotten was that during the last 20 years, only 25 per cent of the money paid by motorists to Central and state governments for the construction and maintainence of roads and flyovers had been utilised for the purpose and the remaining 75 per cent had been siphoned off for other purposes.8221;
