Kadam files application

  • Suspended police sub-inspector M Y Kadam, who was scheduled to depose before the Gundewar Commission today filed an application before the Commission seeking the postponement of his deposition by another 15 days. Special public prosecutor of Mumbai police Ujjwal Nikam today filed the application, which states that Kadam has complained of chest pain and requires complete rest for at least 15 days. The application will be heard on Friday, February 6, 1998. Kadam, a PSI with the State Reserve Police, has been accused of giving orders to open fire at the dalits after he was unable to control the rioting crowd following the desecration of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar8217;s statue at Ramabai Nagar on July 11, 1997.Six arrested
  • Juhu police have arrested six persons out of seven who were allegedly involved in the murder of a tongawala at Juhu on January 30. The arrested are: Yellappa A Tewar, Chand R Sheikh, Sunil Shah, Ramesh Khaire, Rajendra and Govinda Khanna. Police saidthe deceased Rajesh Deshmukh 32, a Juhu resident was attacked by seven persons at 1.30 am on the A B Nair Rd near Holiday Inn hotel. Investigations are on to nab the seventh accused.
  • Reading session

  • The British Council Division, British Deputy High Commission, has organised a reading session for the Mumbai-based writers who have contributed to the special issue of the London magazine. There will also be a panel discussion on 8220;Post-Independence Indian Writing in English8221; on February 14 at 4 pm. It will be held in the division theatre at Mittal Tower.
