Excise official held for bribe
The CBI has arrested a superintendent of central excise for demanding and accepting a bribe from an ex-serviceman engaged in manufacturing lighting fixtures and petrol pump parts. The official was remanded to police custody till June 12 under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, today. Said Superintendent of Police CBI N S Saravade, the excise official had demanded a bribe of Rs 1000 for accepting and acknowledging the return filed by the ex-serviceman.
Warrant against Sharad Rao
The Bombay High Court has issued a non-bailable arrest warrant against Municipal Mazdoor Union leader Sharad Rao for allegedly making quot;derogatoryquot; remarks against Chief Justice M B Shah in a public meeting early this year. The warrant was issued against Rao on April 29 last because he had failed to appear before the court on three occasions. The Advocate General who filed a contempt petition alleged that Rao had declared in a public meeting on January 6 that the CJwas favouring the rich because he ordered a ban on morchas from Churchgate to Nariman Point on a petition filed by local residents.
2 nutritional aids for AIDS-affected
Two new dietary nutritional supplements 8211; Genpro and Prologic 8211; were recently introduced in Mumbai. Genpro, meant for HIV-positive individuals, helps stabilise the immune-system and has no side effects. It can be taken by all those not allergic to egg. Prologic is also made of egg and reduces the levels of serum cholesterol. Both products, from the stable of DCV Biologies, USA, a joint venture between Dupont and ConAgra, will be distributed throughout India, solely by Nutritional Supplement Division of Gulmohar Developers and Builders GDB, Mumbai.

Ahmed Budruddin, an employee in The Indian Express process department, retired on June 5, 1998, after 37 years of service.
IA flights rescheduled
Indian Airlines has announced schedule changes tobe effective from today in order to carry out mandatory checks of some of the Airbus A320 aircraft, which will be temporarily withdrawn from operations, until further notice. Flight IC-806/805 on the Mumbai/Delhi/Mumbai sector will be withdrawn, while timings of Delhi/Calcutta and Delhi/Bhubaneshwar flights will be revised. Flight IC-877 will leave Delhi at 12.30 am instead of 10.45 pm for Bhubaneshwar, while flight IC-264 from Delhi to Calcutta will leave at 8.30 pm instead of 6.45 pm.
