Indira award for 1998 given

The Indira Priyadarshini Award for 1998 was given to Smita Jaywant Dhumande from Dombivli in New Delhi by M A Naqvi, state minister for information and broadcasting, on May 1. The award was given to her for service and achievement in health care in rural areas, maintaining the ecological balance, providing low-cost housing and promoting the co-operative movement in Kalyan and Murbad.

Oil dealer looted of Rs 8 lakh

In an another incident, an edible oil dealer was ambushed and Rs 8.25 lakh were looted at Jogeshwari last night.

The incident took place around 10.30 pm when Iqbal Ibrahim Kalvatar, 32, after closing was returning home in his Maruti Zen car No MH06 F 2205. The cash from the day8217;s sales was kept on the back seat in a black bag.Suddenly, three men in a gray Maruti 1000 intercepted his car when it was near Divan Centre on S V Road, Jogeshwari west. The trio, armed with choppers and iron rod, smashed his windscreen and fled with the booty.
