
Bogus bidis worth Rs 15 lakh seized
The crime branch officers have seized fake bidis worth over Rs 15 lakh from a group of bidi exporters.
On a tip-off that 40 cartons were lying at the Mumbai Port Trust, police raided the place and recovered cartons carrying bidi brand no 30, which actually turned out to be duplicate and meant for exports to Gulf countries by some parties. The official licensed exporters for the bidi were Supariwala Exports at Nariman Point. The bidis were originally manufactured at Bharat Bidi Works, Mangalore.
The duplicate consignment is worth over Rs 15 lakh. Investigations led the police to Tip Top Impex, whose staff have been detained for questioning. Further investigations are on.
Trader held for food poisoning
The Agripada police have arrested the owner of Maharashtra Sweets and Dairy, Abdul Rashid from Agripada, for selling stale sweets which caused food poisoning to five boys last month.
The chemical analysis report, which came in only on Saturday,established that the cause of food poisoning was stale and putrefied mava which was used in the sweets.
