DRI seizes goods worth Rs 2.4 crore

The DRI, Mumbai, has seized goods worth Rs 2.4 crore including ball bearings, emergency lights, textile fabrics, video cassettes, torches, cardamom and chemicals that were meant for Nepal and were instead smuggled back into Mumbai.

The goods were seized by DRI officers who intercepted a truck after it entered Mumbai via Madhya Pradesh. While a portion of the consignment was recovered from the truck, another cache was found in a godown in Bhiwandi. The DRI said activities of gangs involved in diversion of Nepal-bound goods to markets in eastern or northern India have now extended to Mumbai also.

Telecast of Gita Rahasya

Doordarshan will resume telecast of the serial Gita Rahasya every Sunday from October 10 in keeping with an interim order of Bombay High Court. The serial, made by actor-turned-politician Nitish Bharadwaj, was called off the air by the Election Commission on grounds of violation of code of conduct following which the producermoved the court. The petition was admitted last month by Justice M Ghodeswar and S Radhakrishnan who, in an interim ruling, allowed the serial8217;s telecast any time beyond September 11 after the conclusion of Parliamentary elections at Rajgarh in Madhya Pradesh, from where Bharadwaj contested as a BJP nominee.

World Congress on cardiology

The first-ever World Congress on interventional cardiology will be held in Mumbai from October 13 to 16, throwing open various aspects of heart ailments for discussion. Secretary-general of the Congress Dr Lekha Pathak said over 100 international faculty all over the world and over 2,000 doctors and experts from India would attend the Congress. The president of the Congress is noted cardiologist Dr B K Goel.
