
Police asked to be on high alert
Mumbai police have been instructed to maintain a high-level alert following the recovery of a crude bomb from Dockyard railway station on Sunday evening. Minister of State for Home Ramdas Kadam today called a meeting of Mumbai police8217;s top brass and briefed them about the Inter-Services Intelligence8217;s ISI operations in the city. The Minister and Mumbai police have reportedly received some Intelligence Bureau IB alerts about infiltration of ISI operatives in Mumbai.
Along with police commissioner R H Mendonca, Kadam met D Sivanandhan, joint commissioner of police, crime, and additional commissioners of police Y C Pawar, Rakesh Maria, Arup Patnaik and K L Prasad. A strategy to check any ISI mischief was chalked out in the three-hour-long meeting, sources said. In the wake of recent developments in Kargil, police suspect that some ISI agents have sneaked into the city.
CET results on June 28
The results of the Maharashtra Health Sciences Common EntranceTest MH CET 1999 will be declared on June 28. The mark-sheets will be distributed at government medical colleges, according to the Controller of Examinations of the Nashik-based Maharashtra University of Health Sciences, Dr Abhay Chaudhari. In towns where there are no colleges, the mark-sheets will be distributed at the respective district collectorates. In all, 39,500-odd students had appeared for the CET.
According to MUHS officials, discrepancies in writing hall ticket numbers were detected in 35,000 out of 1.57 lakh answer-sheets, which had to be corrected manually. There were 105 complaints of the question paper version being wrongly mentioned in the answer-sheets, which were also manually rectified. The discrepancies in the answer-sheets resulted in the delay in the declaration of results, MUHS officials claimed.
Bomb hoax at Andheri
On second consecutive day police received a bomb hoax call on Monday. Bus commuters alerted the police after spotting a small bag kept in a corner of thepavement near the BEST building, Andheri W station at 11.15 am. The bomb squad and the dog squad were immediately pressed into action. The bustling area was cordoned off. The squad however found that the bag was filled with papads.
JJ case: 2 more witnesses hostile
Two panch witnesses in the 1992 J J shootout case turned hostile to the prosecution case today. The two witnesses who acted as panchas during the recovery of the official car of former chairman of Bhiwandi-Nizampur Municipal Council Jayant Suryarao informed the court that they were seeing Suryarao for the first time today. The witnesses further stated that they had signed on the recovery panchnama after being instructed by the police.
