Sikhs celebrate founding of Khalsa Panth

Thousands of Sikhs participated in the celebrations of the 300 years of Khalsa Panth which was observed with religious fervour and gaiety amidst slogans of Dej Tej Fateh across Mumbai today. A procession was taken out from August Kranti Maidan to Azad Maidan by the Sikh community as part of the celebrations, which are the last of this century. The processionists chanted bhajans in tribute to the first guru of the Sikhs Guru Gobind Singh, who founded Sikhism three hundred years ago. The procession wended its way from August Kranti Maidan to Nana Chowk-Opera House-Girgaum-Metro and culminated at Azad Maidan. Large number of devotees participated in the procession.

Rights violation at workplace

Sexual harassment at workplaces should no longer be perceived as an individual problem but a transgression on human rights, according to noted advocate and social worker, Naina Kapur. Speaking at a seminar on `Women Workers’ Rights’ on Friday, Kapur said thatperceiving it as a human right problem would not only help in easing out the shame, guilt and depression associated with sexual harassment but also boost ways and methods through which the problem could be tackled at workplaces.

Muslims seek job reservation

A nationwide signature campaign would be launched soon by the All India Qaumi Tanzeem (AIQT), seeking reservation for Muslims in government jobs. After collection of one crore signatures throughout during a six-month period, it will be handed over to President K R Narayanan on October 2, Gandhi Jayanti day, AIQT President Tariq Anwar stated. The decision to endorse the document seeking reservations in Central and state government services for Muslims was taken at the national meet of the Qaumi Tanzeem on Saturday. Also, the meeting discussed wide-ranging issues facing the Muslim community in the country including lack of education and unemployment.
