WR services disrupted

The local Western Railway WR services were affected this morning following a technical snag at Mahim railway station. According to WR spokesperson, the problem occured at 5.45 am due to a snag in the overhead equipment on the slow tracks following which all the slow trains were diverted on the fast track affecting both the services. During the morning peak hours, the trains were running by 20 minutes behind schedule. However, the sources added that the services were soon restored to normalcy.

ATCs call off strike

The nation-wide hunger strike by air traffic controllers ATCs, in protest against the dismissal and arrest of four of their colleagues was called off this afternoon.

According to an airport official the hunger strike was called off at 3 pm following a directive by the Air Traffic Controllers Guild in Delhi.

Meanwhile, the Gujarat unit general secretary of ATC Guild, M K Das, told in Ahmedabad that the stir was called off in Gujarat following adirective by the guild. He said that the ATC Guild asked its local units to call off the stir after the management assured that it would look into their genuine demands.

Hungers strike by mill workers

The Girni Kamgar Sangharsh Samiti has today launched an idefinite hunger strike at Mafatlal Mill Number 3, Lower Parel, to protest against state government8217;s silence over the closure of several mills in the city recently, rendering many workers jobless.

Five mill workers launched the hunger strike after several workers were not paid their salary for over five months.

Woman stabbed to death

A 30-year-old woman was murdered by her husband at Shivaji Nagar late on Sunday night. Khanamma Kitya was found in a pool of blood with stab wounds in the chest and right elbow at Flat 3/H/2 Shivaji Nagar, Govandi at around 4.30 am. Investigations have revealed that the couple had come from Anandpur in Andhra Pradesh 10 days ago and were planning to go to a Gulf country as migrant labourers. However,amidst all the preparations to leave Indian shores Kitya fell in love with his sister-in-law with whom they were staying and expressed his desire to marry her.This led to a quarrel on Sunday evening around 8.30 pm and Kitya allegedly stabbed his wife with a knife.

BMC can8217;t pay its workers

Hundreds of workers employed by the Solid Waste Management SWM Department of the BMC on a temporary basis last year for its cleanliness drive have not been paid their salaries for over two months. BMC owes more than Rs 90 lakh to these workers.
