CR services disrupted
MUMBAI, July 29: Services on the Central Railway’s (CR) main line were delayed by about 45 minutes on Wednesday morning following the bunching of trains due to technical problems.

A CR spokesperson said a defect was noticed in a train at Kalyan station early in the morning. Although the defect was rectified, another problem was detected at Dombivli station. This resulted in the bunching of trains, which delayed services by about 30 to 45 minutes.

A couple of trains were also cancelled on the CR’s harbour line due to a signal failure near Sewri station.

Tushar Gandhi arrested
Samajwadi Party leader Tushar Gandhi was today arrested by Mumbai police while demonstrating near Vidhan Bhavan against the rise in prices and the “deteriorating” law and order situation in the state. According to an SP spokesperson, the demonstration was held by the women’s wing of the party, which was joined by Gandhi. He was arrested by the police near Mantralaya and taken to the CuffeParade police station. Some other activists of the party, including the ladies wing leader of the SP city unit Hameeda Mistry, were also arrested by the police.

Tanzanian kids’ treatment in city
Twenty-four Tanzanian children with congenital heart ailments, one of them in a critical condition, flew into Mumbai today for treatment.

The visit has been arranged under the Lions Indo-African Heart Babies project. Earlier, twelve batches of children had come to India for treatment.

Beatrice Theobya, a 13-year-old girl, boarded the flight at Dar-Es-Salaam despite her critical condition and was rushed to the Lilavati Hospital at Bandra soon after arrival.

Twelve of the children would be treated in Mumbai, and the rest in Chennai, district chairperson for the Lions project and consul general of Ghana Vilas Lokhandwala said.
