Police have detained one of the supervisors of the Baguihati multiplex, a portion of which collapsed on Friday evening, critically injuring 11 construction workers.
An FIR was lodged against the builder and the contractor. 8220;The police will take legal actions against the guilty. We have cancelled the licence of the multiplex,8221; chairman of the Rajarhat municipality Tapas Chatterjee said.
The police have also started a probe into the incident. The multiplex on VIP road opposite Big Bazar caved in on Friday.
8220;Besides inferior quality of building materials, we found several cracks in the building. Had the multiplex been opened for the general public, it would have been a disaster,8221; director of fire services Gopal Bhattacharya said.
Construction of the five-storey multiplex was almost over and the ill-fated labourers were giving finishing touches to the casting work on the top floor.
