Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav today hinted at the possibilty of a Third Front after the Assembly elections in the state.

Addressing a public meeting at Haidergarh in Barabanki district, Mulayam said that after the Samajwadi Party rally in Bareilly on April 8, in which leaders from different states came together on one platform, both the CPI and the CPIM8217;s Prakash Karat admitted that the Congress was no alternative to the BJP, and that the SP was the only force which could stop the BJP.

Referring to the Congress as a reduntant force, the SP chief said the party had done nothing for any section of the society except for bringing in inflation. He said fifty years ago Gandhi had advised to write off the Congress as a political outfit and now this was coming true. Mulayam also lashed out at BSP chief Mayawati for her recent statement on the minorities. 8220;She called Muslims terrorists and blamed them of receiving money in exchange for votes. Kitni badtamizi aur behudgi ki baat kerti hai how demeaning and absurd a statement,8221; he said.

Mulayam was, however, more subtle when reacting to Mayawati8217;s attacks on him and SP general secretary Amar Singh with regard to the disproportionate assets case. He said Mayawati8217;s only agenda was to demean a few in the society.
