NEW DELHI, JANUARY 13: Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd MTNL is planning to build a payment gateway to facilitate e-commerce between the trader and consumer, a senior company official said today.

The gateway would be operational both in Delhi and Mumbai. The company is planning to hire consultants to prepare a feasibility report on this matter, Sunderson said. He, however, said that terms of reference were under preperation and final decision was expected before March.

Emphasising the company8217;s thrust on improving customer care, MTNL is tying up with Master Card for extensive usage of all credit cards for purposes like payment of telephone bills in the two metros.

Standard Chartered and Vijaya Bank in Delhi and Citi Bank in Mumbai would be the core bankers for this operation, he said.

The agreement with Master Card, Sunderson said, would be signed by third week of January. MTNL has also joined hands with Pentafour Software to get internet inputs especially in the field of education.

Pentafour has developed very strong educational softwares and MTNL would like to give it on its internet.

quot;We have signed a memorandum of understanding MoU and within 91 days all decisions including commercial deals would be finalised,quot; Sunderson said.

Asked about low response on the electronic clearance system for telephone bills, the official said subscribers had some apprehensions about the system but the company had decided to take responsibility for rectifying any mistake in the bill if noticed later and money would be returned to subscribers with interest.
