VADODARA, AUG 3: The Department of Physics, Faculty of Science of the M S University has made arrangements for the viewing of total solar eclipse on August 11. Briefing about the arrangements, Head of the Department D R S Somayajulu said, 8220;The viewing will be meant for very limited people and would be projected on the screen through the Astronomical Telescope of the Observatory.8221;

Only limited people could be accommodated as the arrangements were being on the department8217;s terrace, he added.

8220;The functioning of the telescope of the observatory has been an advantage on this occasion for the department,8221; Somayajulu said, adding that the observation would range for about 45 minutes.

Talking about the dangers in such events, he said that though people generally viewed eclipses through exposed films, X-rays sheets, dark glass and filters, such methods were dangerous.

8220;The best way to view the eclipse was through a small hole in the roof or a pin-hole camera made of a thick plastic tube.8221; he opined. Suggesting other methods of viewing, he said reflecting the sun8217;s image with the help of a small mirror on a clean white wall at a distance of 20 to 30 metres away frm the mirror could also give a clear view of the event.

He added that people could also use goggles though it had to be specially prepared and certified. The eclipse could also be seen by using weilder8217;s glass, he added.
