The BJP sought to corner both Congress and CPIM in the Lok Sabha today over the Kerala Assembly resolution in favour of Coimbatore serial blasts accused Abdul Nazer Madani.

BJP member Kharabela Swain repeatedly clashed with CPIM member Varkala Radhakrishnan who objected to a state Assembly matter being raised in the House. As an agitated Radhakrishnan continued to interrupt Swain, Speaker Somnath Chatterjee did some tough-talking to silence him. Earlier, Chatterjee did the same with Swain before allowing him to raise the matter.

Raising the issue during Zero-Hour, Swain said, 8216;8216;This is nothing but an act of Muslim appeasement ahead of elections in Kerala.8217;8217; Swain said Madani had links with ISI and had plotted to kill political leaders. He also drew the attention of the House to the fact that all courts had rejected Madani8217;s applications for bail. The BJP leader said both Congress and Left had joined hands to pass the controversial Assembly resolution.

Congress and Left leaders made no attempt to either join the issue with Swain or mount a counter-attack on BJP. It was Radhakrishnan alone, who sought to check Swain, but in the process, he got into a spat with the Speaker.

When Radhakrishnan got up along side Swain to counter what he said, the Speaker asked him: 8216;8216;Are you bound by his statement?8217;8217; As Radhakrishnan said 8216;8216;no8217;8217; the Speaker told him to take his seat. The CPIM leader contended Swain was 8216;8216;misleading the House.8217;8217; Radhakrisnan insisted that he had 8216;8216;the right8217;8217; to have his say, to which the Speaker responded by saying, 8216;8216;No, you have no right8217;8217; at the moment. Maintaining that Radhakrishnan was 8216;8216;setting a very bad example8217;8217; Chatterjee ruled that not even one word of what he was saying would be recorded.

Initially, he told a persistent Swain not to make any attempt to 8216;8216;browbeat8217;8217; him. 8216;8216;Stop dictating terms to the Chair,8217;8217; Chatterjee said, adding, 8216;8216;I will not allow super-speakers in this House.8217;8217; However, he allowed Swain to have his say later.
