FARIDABAD, March 15: Madhya Pradesh, desperately in need of an outright victory to qualify for the quarter-finals, have taken an overall lead of 308 with one second inning wicket remaining at the end of the penultimate day of the Ranji Trophy Group C Super League cricket match against Haryana at the Nahar Singh Stadium here today.

After restricting the hosts to a first innings total of 232 in reply to their own score of 298 for a first innings lead of 66, MP went for quick runs in their second essay in an effort to put pressure on Haryana in the last innings on the final day. At close, MP were 242 for nine. The feature of the innings was an enterprising 72 by opener JP Yadav, who struck left-arm spinner Pradeep Jain for two mighty sixes, besides hitting 11 fours in his 137-minute, 83-ball knock. Haryana medium pacer Vineet Jain finished with four for 82 but not before he had received some stick from the MP batsmen.

Earlier, veteran Amarjeet Kaypee, playing his 94th Ranji match, overtook Ashok Mankad8217;saggregate of 6619 runs and became the fourth highest run-getter, behind Ashok Malhotra, Brijesh Patel and Arun Lal.
