VADODARA, APRIL 30: The Standing Committee of the Vadodara Municipal Corporation has once again deferred approval on the much-hyped proposal to start registering private medical clinics and hospitals in the city with a view to identifying and monitoring those operating in residential areas and throwing medical waste in the open.

Official sources said the Standing Committee had to defer the decision on the issue on Thursday as members failed to reach a consensus on the registration fees to be charged from the clinics.

Medical associations, incidentally, had objected to the move and brought pressure on the city fathers to reconsider the proposal. Following this, the VMC had postponed a decision on the registration, which would imply implementation of the Bombay Nursing Homes Registration Act in Vadodara.

Promote Deputy Engineers: The Vadodara City Care Committee, a voluntary organisation, has demanded that Municipal Commissioner Vilasini Ramchandran fill up four vacancies of Executive Engineers by promoting deputy engineers in the VMC instead of searching for suitable candidates outside.

Committee’s Chief Observer Darayas Medhora said there were more than a dozen deputy engineers working with the VMC for the last 20 years without a promotion, though they earned more than even the Executive Engineers because of their seniority. Besides, since they had vast experience in dealing with the city’s problems, they would be a better bet than fresh recruits, he added.

Ahmed Patel visits Dholi Kui: All-India Congress Committee treasurer Ahmed Patel and local Congress leaders visited the Dholi Kui slum on Thursday to have first-hand information of their problems. After hearing representations by the slum-dwellers, who were recently removed from a plot of land earmarked for the Gujarat Housing Board, he assured them of a proper representation before the State Government.

He was accompanied by Congress councillor Chinnam Gandhi, city Congress president Ashwin Shah and Pradesh Congress general secretary Maulin Vaishnav.
