More WTA meets needed

Today, after almost 18-months, are the players happy with AITA8217;s work? What have they to say about the forthcoming international tourneys to be held in the country?

Janaki Krishnamurthi, president of the women8217;s ITPA body, says:
On the overall scenario: There have been welcoming changes. But we need AITA to come forward more in terms of sending promising junior and senior players abroad.

The domestic circuit: If there are Rs 1.25 lakh prize money tourney8217;s then there should be 10 such meets a year. And if its a Rs 2.5 lakh meet which ideally should be, then we need a minimum of five meets.

About The Intl. meets: We should have at least 2-3 tourneys like the the ongoing three-leg ITF meet concluding with a 5000 Masters. Instead of a 75,000 meet scheduled in Delhi later, we should have ten tournaments each offering 10,000 prize money. Reason: For a meet of this stature the qualifying and main draw will be very tough. There won8217;t be many Indians, who will not be able to make it to the main draw. Then what8217;s the use An opinion Rushmi Chakravarthi and Sai Jayalakshmi too agrees.

About AITA: They should also promote upcoming players in terms of finance. Scholarships, like what the Maharashtra State Association MSA gives to it8217;s players, the parent body should also follow the same.
