Additional Central paramilitary forces have been rushed to violence-hit Kandhamal district in Orissa. Four companies over 400 personnel of the CRPF were dispatched on Friday. They include one company of the RAF. The personnel sent on Friday are in addition to the three companies of CRPF deployed in Orissa on Thursday to control the situation after continuing communal clashes broke out and attacks in churches. The Centre has already asked the state for a detailed report and issued an advisory seeking protection for minority institutions, including places of worship. The Union Home Ministry is monitoring the situation and has assured Orissa of all help to maintain law and order.
Meanwhile, the National Minorities Commission has sought a report from the state about the incidence of violence against Christians. After a report from Chief Secretary Subas Pani, the Commission is expected to send a team to the state.
