Two days after Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi claimed that the conspiracy for the Godhra carnage was hatched in Madhya Pradesh, Deputy Prime Minister L.K. Advani on Thursday expressed ignorance about the same and said an inquiry was still on into the incident.

‘‘Where the Godhra conspiracy was hatched…the inquiry is still on…let it be completed,’’ Advani told reporters here. ‘‘I can only say there are specific reports of Madhya Pradesh not providing police assistance sought by Gujarat during the communal violence in the state,’’ he said.

The Deputy PM said he was aware of the fact that at that time, the Gujarat government needed support and had sought security forces from the Centre which was provided in order to enable the administration to restore normalcy.

‘‘Gujarat had also asked neighbouring MP for police force to deal with the situation but no such assistance was made available,’’ he said. Answering a query on terrorism, he said the Centre has been trying to bring about a law to tackle offences like terrorism, fake currency notes and stamp paper offences.
