A Maharashtra Navnirman Sena MNS worker has filed a complaint with the Maharashtra State Human Rights Commission MSHRC and sought action against Joint Police Commissioner K L Prasad for the controversial statements he made at a recent press conference.

In a letter sent to the MSHRC on September 12, MNS worker and Goregaon resident Anil Chitale said that while watching television news on September 10, 8220;I was surprised to hear Maharasthra Police Joint Police Commissioner K L Prasad8217;s statements in an interview about the MNS protests. Prasad had said, 8216;Raj Thackeray usne ye bola hai, political dhang se, koi bhhicheez, kuch bhi bolte rehta hai, but definitely koi bhi admi kanoon ka bighadne ki koshish karenge, us samay police usko achche dhang se samadh dena aur usko pratiband karma 8212; yeh city koi baap ka property nahi hai8221;.

The MNS worker said that these statements reminded him of another interview given by Prasad 8212; on February 12 8212; which too was 8220;careless and hampered peace and tranquility in the city8221;. In that interview Prasad had said, 8220;Koi bhi admi kanoon hath mein liya, uska hath pair tod dalenge.8221;

Chitale said in his letter that it is shocking to see an officer in charge of law and order himself make such statements in interviews. Prasad8217;s statements amount to violations of the basic fundamental rights entitled to him by the Constitution. 8220;Is it not our fundamental right to be a member of an organisation and protest democratically?8221; he asked.

He added, 8220;Should officials entrusted with safeguarding the rights entrusted in the Constitution be violating those rights? This officer is without any reason provoking people, creating a volatile atmosphere and violating the same rights.8221;

Referring to State Home Minister R R Patil8217;s objections to the statements made by the officer, Chitale sought a thorough investigation into the matter and orders for appropriate action against Prasad.
