NEW DELHI, May 27: Middlesex Wanderers from England gave a lesson or two to former DSA League champions Shastri when the visitors beat the latter 3-0 in an exhibition tie at the Ambedkar Stadium here today. The winners led 2-0 at the break, following a brace by the lanky Wayne Cort.

The five-time champion Delhi side made sporadic raids but failed to penetrate a sound defence adopted by the visitors. Wanderers surged ahead in the 15th minute when midfielder Jim Virgo sent a measured cross to the far post from left which Cort vollyed craftily into the roof. Playing a crisp and attacking football, the Wanderers went up further in the 34th minute, thanks to a solo effort by the lanky striker. Cort dodged past two Shastri defenders and placed the ball in for his second goal.

Meanwhile international Bhupender Thakur and Michael Donagogo sent in their scorchers but Wanderers’ goalkeeper Chris Taylor made brave saves.

Wanderers did not give up and on counter attack forced the pace with substitutes Simon Parke and Graham doing a fine job. The skillful Bishwanath Deb under the bar came the rescue of Shastri. But he could not stop the visitors far too long.
