Mercury plummets in Delhi

Delhi denizens got a feel of the winter on Friday as they were greeted with misty and chilly morning and the temperature dipping to the season8217;s lowest of 6.4 degree Celsius.

After hovering around the eight-degree mark in past few days, the mercury has plummeted to the season8217;s lowest of 6.4 degrees Celsius this morning, Met Department said.

The maximum temperature on Thursday was recorded at 24.5 degree Celsius, which was one degree above the normal for the season.

Earlier, Delhi experienced the season8217;s lowest on December 13 when the mercury plummeted to 6.7 degrees Celsius.

The Met department has predicted a bright and clear sky for the day with mist or shallow fog enveloping the national capital at night.

The weatherman said the minimum temperature is likely to remain around seven degrees in the coming days due to the arrival of northernly winds from Northern states while maximum at 24 degrees Celsius.

Though Indira Gandhi International airport experienced fog this morning, flights remained unaffected as the runway visibility range was good enough for smooth operations. The general visibility at 5.30 am was 150 metres, the RVR was 1,200 m for main runway, and 800 m for the new runway.

As the day progressed, visibility increased to 700 metres but the RVR for main runway hovered around 1,000 metres while that of new runway remained around 900 metres, airport sources said.
