As election campaign for the March 3 Assembly polls in Meghalaya ended on Saturday evening, Bihar Deputy Chief Minister and BJP leader Sushil Modi continued his attack on the Congress, blaming it for ULFA violence against Hindi-speaking people in the North-East. Modi also blamed the Congress for the divisive politics. “Had it not been so, it would not have remained a silent spectator to the attacks on various communities in Maharashtra and Assam,” he said, adding the Bihar Assembly had resolved to write to the Prime Minister to provide security to the Hindi-speaking people in North-East and Maharashtra. Former party chief Venkatiah Naidu had also blamed the Congress for the violence perpetrated by the ULFA in Assam. “ULFA violence, Congress silent”, was his terse comment. At least 130 Hindi-speaking people have been killed in a series of violence triggered especially by the ULFA in Assam in the last two years. Only a few days back the violence struck the Karbi Anglong and North Cachar Hills districts.
