Celina Jaitly Marriage Breakdown: Actress Celina Jaitly approached a court in Mumbai this week to file a divorce case against her Austrian husband, Peter Haag, ending their 15-year marriage. The actress penned a long and emotional note on Instagram about fighting the crisis all alone. She has asked for divorce on the grounds of domestic violence and abuse against Peter at a court in Andheri, Mumbai. However, before Celina filed her case, Peter Haag had initiated a divorce case against her in Austria. When SCREEN reached out to Celina, the actress refused to comment since the matter is in court; however, her lawyer shared the 199-page petition that was submitted in court.

A lawyer from Celina’s legal team, Niharika Karanjwala Misra, spoke to The Times of India, sharing details on the case. Niharika revealed that Celina’s husband, Peter, had blamed her for the marriage breakdown and had filed for divorce in the Austrian court earlier this year. The lawyer also shared that a notice has been issued to Peter by the Mumbai court, which is returnable by December 12.

Celina has claimed an alimony of Rs 10 lakhs per month and a compensation of Rs 50 crores. The lawyer also claimed that there is another civil case against Peter for forcing Celina to transfer her Mumbai property worth Rs 3.5 crores to his name through a gift deed. Niharika alleged that the couple had also jointly purchased certain properties in Vienna, which Peter sold off without Celina’s knowledge.

In a conversation with News 18, Celina’s lawyer also revealed, “She’s fighting it out in the case going on in the Austrian court. Her children are her foremost concern. We’ve asked for the custody of her children and access to them in the domestic case, too. Fortunately, two days back, the Austrian court, in the divorce proceedings, allowed her access to them for one hour a day, telephonically. She’s able to communicate with them daily. Before this, Peter had cut off contact for a while between her and the children.”

Celina accuses Peter of using her money to finance his lifestyle

In the petition submitted in court, it is stated that in 2012, after the couple shifted to Singapore from Dubai, Celina learnt from her sister-in-law that her husband Peter was in a live-in relationship during their courtship period. The live-in relationship lasted for five years, during which Peter portrayed himself as single.  Commenting on this allegation, Celina’s lawyer told News 18, “While there’s no infidelity that she knows of during the marriage, she did hear from his sister shortly after the first set of twins were born. She heard that, though he had portrayed himself to be single at the time they were dating, he was actually in a live-in relationship with another lady.”

Nikarika further added, “He made her give him all her credit and debit cards so that he was in charge financially. He was using all of her savings to fund their life. She couldn’t ask him about his salaries from his jobs because he would fly into a rage. When they got into a conversation, she learnt that he had sold off the property they bought together in Vienna last year without informing her. He kept telling her that there was no money, and they got into a fight. At first, they cohabited in Mumbai at her house. Thereafter, it was Dubai for his job. They all shifted there to support his career. Then they moved to Singapore when he got an opportunity there. He lost his job there and shifted back to Dubai. After this gift deed was executed, he gave up his job and shifted to a small alpine village in Austria. There, he kept her very isolated. Peter kept all of her documentation and passport with him. One day, while looking for a quiet place to speak to her lawyer, Celina found the place where he had hidden the documents. Thereafter, with the help of a neighbour, she rushed back to India and moved the courts here for justice.”

Peter Haag trying to prove marriage breakdown due to Celina Jaitly

According to Celina’s lawyer, Peter Haag filed for divorce first in an Austrian court earlier this year. He took this step after Celina learned about the Vienna properties being sold without her knowledge. In the case Peter has filed in Austria, he is trying to prove that Celina has no claim on any of their properties. The lawyer also shared that Peter is blaming Celina for the marriage breakdown in the Austrian court. While Celina asked him to go for a divorce with mutual consent for the sake of her children, Peter wasn’t willing to do that.

On Tuesday, Celina also penned an emotional note about her divorce battle with Peter. She wrote on Instagram, “In the middle of the strongest, most turbulent storm of my life. I never imagined I would spend fighting alone, without any parents, without any support system. I never thought there would come a day without all the pillars on which the roof of my world once rested, my parents, my brother, my children, & the one who promised to stand by me, love me, care for me, & bear every trouble with me. Life stripped everything away. People I trusted walked away. Promises I believed in broke in silence.”

“But the storm did not drown me; it delivered me, it tossed me out of violent waters onto warm sands. It forced me to meet the woman inside me who refuses to die, because I am a soldier’s daughter, raised on courage, discipline, grit, resilience, fire & faith. I have been taught to get up when the world wants me to fall, to fight when my heart is breaking, to show no mercy when I have been wronged, and to survive even when it feels impossible. My priority remains fighting for my soldier brother, fighting for my children’s love, fighting for my dignity. A DV complaint has been filed against all the atrocities, abandonment perpetrated upon me,” the note further read.
