CHANDIGARH, July 28: The dwelling units constructed by the Chandigarh Housing Board in Phase III of Manimajra Modern Residential Complex would be converted from leasehold to freehold by the Municipal Corporation.
At its meeting today, the MC decided to allow the conversion at the Chandigarh Administration rates. Passing a resolution to this effect, the MC decided that the conversion for such houses would be done without any quot;no-objection certificatequot; or completion certificate.
It was pointed out that the Estate Office had already acted on the conversion of 28 such CHB flats in Manimajra, but the CHB had not granted approval since the land belonged to the MC and not the Administration. The MC had now received at least 40 such cases where the CHB had granted its quot;NOCquot; and quot;No-duesquot; for conversion.
Today8217;s meeting was marked by uproarious scenes as some councillors called for the repatriation of the Commissioner for not responding to them properly. Congress councillors Raj Kumar Goel, Gurcharan Dass Kala and Kamlesh had to be forcibly removed from the House by MC marshals, when they refused to listen to the Chair, after being asked to go out of the House after they continued disrupting the proceedings. The meeting also had to be adjourned for some time.
The MC also approved levying of charges on City cable-operators. It resolved that cable operators would be levied charges for taking the cables quot;over the roadsquot;, rates for which would be fixed soon. Alternatively, the operators would be told to pay in case they make quot;cuts in roads for underground cable usequot;. The MC also constituted a committee for the management of the Sector 25 cremation ground. The members include Prem Sagar Jain, Maj Gen Rajinder Nath retd, Air Marshal R.S. Bedi retd, Harjinder Kaur, Bachan Singh, Kamlesh and Satinder Dhawan.
