Forest department issues 1,500 notices to shopkeepers, MC and residents for blatantly misusing the forest land
Taking strict note of the misuse of the forest land, the district forest department has sent around 1,500 notices to shopkeepers, residents and the Municipal Corporation.
The notice sent to Municipal Corporation categorically states that garbage should not be dumped in the forest area along the roadsides.
More than 15 garbage sites have been made along the roadsides in between eucalyptus trees. The spill over rubbish from these sites often damages the trees apart from emanating foul smell. There are many shopkeepers who have encroached upon the forest land by displaying their products. Some have even used it for parking purposes while others have rented it out to vendors.
Taking a strict note of all this, the Forest department has asked the Municipal Corporation to find some solution to disposing of the garbage. The residents have also been directed to stop the misuse of the forest land and contribute in making the city clean and green.
District Forest Officer DFO Mahavir Singh said, 8220;We have sent notices to residents and MC. If they don8217;t comply with the same, legal action will be taken against them.8221;
The garbage sites on the Ferozepur Road near GADVASU, another near Sherpur Chowk, Aggar Nagar, PAU gate number 2 and many other locations all fall under forest land. This means that the Municipal Corporation is clearly violating the Environment Act rules.
Garbage from nearly 13 localities was being thrown in a bin within the forest area near GADVASU. Garbage at this site used to spill out to about a kilometre. Though the Municipal Corporation has stopped throwing garbage at this site for the past many days following notices sent by Forest department, allegations are also being levelled that the MC staff is charging about Rs 400 for throwing garbage 8212; the claim being refuted by Zonal Commissioner Kuldeep Singh.
Sanitory inspectors alleged that residents from Rajguru Nagar, Aggar Nagar and even the BRS Nagar were throwing garbage at this site. The residents were asked to install garbage bins in their colonies for the smooth removal of trash but no action has been taken as yet.
Meanwhile, Commissioner G S Ghuman had also directed the Sanitation department to identify some other sites and has also asked residents to place bins in the localities.
Zonal Commissioner Kuldeep Singh, however, said, 8220;Everyone wants to keep their houses clean by littering the roadsides. This is totally unjustified.8221;
