Mayor reiterates need for extra post

AHMEDABAD, Nov 24: Mayor and ex-officio chairperson of the V.S.Hospital Board of Management Malini Atit on Wednesday, reiterated the resolve to introduce a post of third deputy superintendent in the hospital, which is to be filled by a non-doctor.

She said the board in its Thursday8217;s meeting would discuss this issue threadbare and that there was no question of going back on it. However, Congress councillor Surendra Baxi has opposed the move, saying this would only add to confustion in the smooth functioning of the hospital. quot;Only persons with medical background can run a hospital administration efficiently and effectively, as they understand things better,quot; he said.

In a letter to the mayor, he pointed out that the proposal for this new post was not a new one, as was being made out to be. He alleged the board was being misguided by the ruling BJP, which wanted to push in its own favourite persons by creating a new post.

He also alleged that the eligibility terms and conditions for filling this new post were finalised arbitrarily, without observing any norms. Regarding revamping the hospital facilities, the mayor said the situation at the crowded OPD here would be eased after three OPD8217;s were turned into two and another room was opened for the third OPD.
