The 'Gajraj' has failed once again. After its capture of the key state of Uttar Pradesh overa year ago, the Mayawati-led BSP's elephant has not been able to capture much in any other state. This included the five states whose election results were out today, in which four states showed that the fight was mainly between Congress and BJP.Mayawati's attempts to spread her much-hyped social engineering could not make much dent in Delhi, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh despite the best efforts of the UP ChiefMinister. The 'elephant' symbol of BSP had become a bugbear, both for the Congress and BJP, but could only gain two seats in Delhi, six in Rajasthan and four in Madhya Pradesh, as per the latest results and trends available. It was a similar story for the Mayawati-led party in the assembly elections in Gujarat, Karnataka and Himachal Pradesh where also it failed to make much impact despite projecting itself as the "third force".In fact, in Delhi, the Congress has overturned the elephant's moves by winning a comfortable majority notwithstanding Mayawati's attempts to turn a spoiler. Its only consolation was that it appears to have ensured that the Congress gets slightly less seats than a simple majority in Rajasthan.
