Acting on a report published in The Sunday Express, the Uttar Pradesh Government has ordered a high-level probe into the allotment of a plot meant for economically weaker sections to Samajwadi Party general secretary Amar Singh in Lucknow, and later allotment of a bigger plot in place of this small plot.

Principal Secretary Urban Development S R Lakha, who is the inquiry officer, has been asked to submit his report within 15 days.

The Sunday Express report, published on April 6, stated that the SP leader had applied for allotment of a residential plot in Lucknow in 1993, when Mulayam Singh Yadav was the chief minister.

The Lucknow Development Authority had allotted him a 35 sq m plot under the EWS category, for which those who have an annual income less than Rs 12,000 were eligible.

Later Amar Singh moved from this tiny plot in the EWS area of Vikas Khand in Gomtinagar to owning a 288 sq m plot, which was then 8220;changed8221; to a 354.25 sq m plot, both in Vipul Khand.

The Express investigation found that the plot now forms part of a 708.50 sq m land on which Amar Singh8217;s house 8216;Aishwarya8217; stands.

The Government has directed the LDA vice-chairman to extend all cooperation, and provide all records, to the inquiry officer.
