9,000 evacuated in Maharashtra: Torrential rains over the weekend caused havoc across Maharashtra. The worst affected is Amravati district where 22 lives were lost in the past 24 hours. Elsewhere, 10 people died in Thane, nine in Kolhapur, 8 in Konkan division, five in Mumbai, four in Nagpur and one in Nasik. Chief Minister R R Patil said more than 9,000 people had been evacuated and relocated to relief camps.

Four dead in Gujarat: Four persons lost their lives in heavy overnight rains in Gujarat, officials said on Sunday. Three people died in Valsad district while lightning claimed one life in Vadodara district. The Meteorological Department predicted heavy rains in the next 36 hours in Gujarat.

50,000 marooned in Chhattisgarh: Incessant rain over the past 48 hours has claimed eight lives and left around 50,000 people marooned in Chhattisgarh. Besides disrupting air and rail services, the downpour has killed four in Raipur, three in Durg and one in Mahasamund.
