Maoist rebels abducted three local traders and set ablaze their vehicle at a weekly market in Kanker district while the security forces raided a rebel hideout in south Bastar, killing a woman Naxalite in tribal Bastar region of Chhattisgarh.

Police said the traders were abducted when they were on their way to Badgaon from the market. The Maoists initially held 30 traders captive, but later released 27 of them. The rebels also set ablaze a truck owned by the traders.

The three traders, still under custody of Maoists, have been identified as Shiv Pratap Singh, Suraj Singh and Ramesh Singh.

Police said a search has been launched to secure their release.

Meanwhile, security forces raided a Naxalite hideout near Uppelmeta under Errabore police station in south Bastar in Dantewada district this morning.

Security forces and the Maoists had an encounter for almost an hour in which a woman Naxalite, belonging to the Military Dalam, was killed.
