CHANDIGARH, April 5: The king of summer fruits, mango, has hit the market, but on a dear note.
Safeda available for Rs 40 per kg in the Sector 26 market is available for not less than Rs 50 per kg in other areas. However, the prices of mangoes ever since they hit the market have gone up. Earlier, they were available for Rs 30 per kg.
According to Sham Dev Verma, a fruit vendor at the Sector 26 market, 8220;at the moment only safeda is available and this too comes all the way from the western part of the country. It will take almost a month for other varieties like langra, banarsi to arrive in the market.8221;
By the time these varieties hit the market, safeda is likely to become cheaper as the mango crop this year is considered to be comparatively better than last year.
The local produce, which will further bring a fall in prices, will be available much later sometime in May end.
