Maneka recalls panel from MP

GANDHINAGAR, APRIL 14: Union Minister of State for Social Welfare Maneka Gandhi on Monday recalled the committee of three joint secretaries she had drafted to Madhya Pradesh to reassess rehabilitation of Narmada project-affected personsPAPs.

The move follows a memorandum to her at New Delhi by former state finance minister Jashwant Mehta and Shankarlal Guru, protesting against the decision to depute the team to Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Maharashtra.

Hailing the withdrawal of the committee, Narmada Development Minister Jay Narayan Vyas and Sardar Sarovar Narmada Nigam Limited chairman Bhupendrasinh Chudasma said this would help expedite the legal process in the Supreme Court which is hearing the case. They also charged the Narmada Bachao Andolan NBA activists with creating hurdles in the implementation of the project.
